It has been a very long time since I had any time for my sweet Prose Like A GIRL. And though it seems more important now, than ever. It has fallen behind within a new home in Boston, a very eager, active, talkative three-year-old, and my role as PR & Marketing Director for JK Food Group. SO, if you would like to stay in touch with what words I’m putting together these days, please head over to Behind the Line and subscribe!
For now, a note about someone who has become near and dear, and the industry that we love. If you are in Boston, please join us Thursday to put the “industry” back in Industry Night and to Drink Up for Darrell.
Courage is plentiful in the JK Food Group family. Our leaders exude courage and they demand it of their employees. Integrity, confidence, compassion, humility, each of those traits defines the heroes of our industry, and gives us something to strive for.
Our leaders are people who show up before they are called upon, whose support is immediate and indefinite. Life was unjust and vicious to one of our own, but before we had time to dwell in the darkness of this act, the outpouring of love was swift and deep. Like true family, the Boston restaurant industry showed up and championed for our Toro executive sous chef and long-time member of the JK family, Darrell Boles.
We will take this utterly senseless situation and be liberated by the power of coming together for something larger than ourselves. We will Drink Up for Darrell this Thursday, September 6th, at Toro, and lift him up with our collective strength. We, in turn, will be encompassed by his will to get better, and his desire to get back to work. His courage, and not ours, will define this moment.
We would like to humbly thank Island Creek Oysters, Southern Proper, Dairyland, Bella Bella Gourmet Foods, Narragansett, Oxley Gin, St. Germain, Origin Beverage, MS Walker, Junipero Gin and Millennium Printing for their generosity and support. SHOW UP this Thursday, 5:30pm to Midnight, to enjoy a special food and drink menu and late-night industry auction as we stand with Darrell, until he can stand tall once again.
